  1. I have some DVcam tapes that I captured in Adobe Premiere at DV settings. I output that to TMPGEnc with the wizard template for a DVD at 6000 CBR since my video was over an hour. When I authored it with DVD Workshop and play it back. Any fast motion was blocky. Should I have done a VBR? I thought at 6000 CBR it would look pretty good.

    Thanks,
    Jim

  2. hmm..

    should work...does it play on pc well ?

    Maybe it;s a reading problem in your standalone dvd player.

    could try making clip with 8000 kbps.

    maybe blockiness was created by DV codec...this one isn;t lossles.

  3. Maybe field order is wrong..try swap fields in virtualdub. and reencode.

    or swap fields in teh encoder.

    hello jim s,

    No tmcmvd, I don't you got it, nor do I think that jim s has either.

    re-read his post again. He said that he use TMPG's DVD template, and
    encoded to DVD specs. But, it looks like he used/burned to a CDR or CDRW
    and is now playing it in his DVD player. NOT, burned to DVD disk with a
    DVD writer/burner!!

    Sound's like he's burning CDRs after an DVD template encode.

    jim s,
    you're problem (if I'm correct) is that YOUR dvd player can't play very
    well w/ bitrate that high, ie, 6000.

    Try lowering your bitrate to 4000, but no higher. If it works better, then
    you know what you're problem is. Also, if you're encoding to DVD specs w/ TMPG
    and using 48k (instead of 44k) so that you can stick to DVD specs, your dvd
    player may not be handling it very well.
    My Apex AD-1500 handles 4000 pretty well, for MPEG-2 encodes.

    So, your two possible problems to look into is:
    * Audio: 48k vs. 44k
    * Bitrate: 4000 vs. 6000 (try lowering to 4000 or even 3000)

  5. I?ve burnt disc?s at 8000 CBR and things worked great. But I wanted to add a little more since my footage was over an hour. I?m burning with a Pioneer A04 and authoring with DVD workshop. I?m still using the trail version and I think the problem might be is that its trying to re encode in mpeg2 from the file made by TMPGEnc. And my DVD player I?m using is a Play Station 2.

  6. I think It is possible that when you are at the authoring phase that udws is RE-encoding your already dvd complient file using whatever template udws has set as default, Hence the drop in quality. When at the final stage, make sure you check the box that says something along the lines of "do not convert complient file". I hope this is of help. If not than I hope you get some good help.
