  1. i encoded my avi files with TMPGEnc with frame size 352x288 (PAL VCD)...
and burned it with vcd easy....

but when i played the dics in my vcd player somehow the images are looked streched.....

what i don't understand is if i played the same mpg file (before burning) from the computer and ouput it to the tv (via tv out) everything (image size)looks ok...

    any idea?

In TMPGEnc you should have "Full screen > keep aspect ratio" make sure you have the correct standard selected in authoring (PAL)

  3. i did chossed the "Full screen > keep aspect ratio"....

i read sometimes back in the web that vcd players sometime have this kind of "resizing", when this disc is played back....

could it be my vcd player problem?

After conversion, what did the .mpg look like, what does the VCD look like on your computer. Did you select PAL when authoring ?

  5. I always use full screen keep aspect ratio in tmpgenc and it seems to me that if you choose that option when encoding a movie that was originally in widescreen format that it always stretches the picture a little bit. What I do is open my file in tmpgenc and then choose next. I check the box that says clip frame and a new window will open up. Then I advance the movie to a part with someones head in the picture. Choose arrange settings and pick full screen keep aspect ratio or any other choice. Then choose the clip frame box and you can see how much the encoding process will stretch the movie before you encode it. checking and unchecking the resize option will show you how the movie looks before and after encoding the movie

TMPGEnc does not change the aspect ratio if that is selected, a widescreen movie would be maintained with black borders at the top and bottom, no elongated pictures. If you have previously used the clip, it will always be selected there for the next conversion and must be switched off.

  7. If tmpgenc does not stretch the picture then why is this guys picture stretched and so are mine when doing it this way. Try previewing the picture before encoding it like I mentioned earlier and you will see the differences. Personally I don't mind stretching it a little bit as it seems to make the black boarders just a little bit smaller.

The "Keep Aspect Ratio" does not work,at least not in my expierence and not with the other posters. What does work is the custom centered option. When enabled it opens two boxes where you specify the size. If your encoding at 352x240,set the custom size at 480x240. Width is twice the width. This results in the aspect ratio being preserved, round objects will still be round. It does enlarge the image to near full cutting off the left and right edges. It will bring 2.35:1 movie upto about 1.85:1

If I had it in front of my I could probably tell why, but since I don't I am trying to find out why. There is no stretching when set up correctly.

MPEG movie is not shown properly at full screen.
Here is recommended aspect ratio for each size of movie. (source)
    Size recommended aspect ratio
    320x240 1:1 (VGA)
    352x240 (Video-CD)4:3 NTSC
    640x480 1:1 (VGA)
    720x480 (DV, DVD)4:3 NTSC
None of the above Try 1:1 (VGA) first.
If your using the wizard "Don’t" having loaded a VCD template and selected the file, TMPGEnc source has already been set, if you change that then the output will also be changed.

With thousands of people already using this function ask yourself why a few cannot get it to work ?, something is wrong that’s for sure, who knows what people change in the settings.

If you really want to preserve the full letterboxing then reverse the process. If your encoding at 720x480 the set the custom size to 720x360,that will preserve the original letterboxed image.
