    the estimated time to convert fast and the furious is about 6 hours. is this right, is there something that is faster?

    If it only takes 6 hours then you doing good... A hard ware encoder is faster,,,,,,but most don't have that..

    mpeg-1? mpeg-2? 2-pass VBR? Motion search precision? Filters? Cropping? It could be a good time or a bad time.
