In case these apps won't run for you or you start to get audio then the error appears.
I had to reinstall some software lately and suddenly a new problem cropped up in my capture apps, Intervideo's Wincode and Windvr. I got the msg "Illegal Instructions in kernel" error.
I started removing and reinstalling and found a conflict with PowerDVD 4.0. PowerDVD 3.0 works with these apps but not v4.
There is also a codec loaded with the nimo5 build 7 bundle that causes the same problem. I found it but unfortunately it was trial and error and don't remember which box I excluded from the install.
I use PowerVCR II also because I can tweak the register to get custom sizes but in every test I made Intervideo's apps produced better results at the same resolutions.
I use WIN98SE so maybe that conflict is resolved in other win versions but based on some of the posts I've seen it seems to be a common error.
