  1. I want to split 1.4 GB MPEG-2 file into 2 700 MB files, I know I can do that with TMPG, but the file is in VBR so I don't know exactly where to cut it. I know that bbMPEG has an option to cut MPEG file every 700 MB for example, the problem is that bbMPEG has a lot of problems on my PC, so I don't use it. Is there any option to cut file after exact size in TMPG?

  2. Open TMPGE....
MPEG Tools > Merge and Cut > Type: MPEG2 -VBR > Add(enter file ) > Double Click file in window > Slide bar all the way to the right for full movie length > divide time in half > slide bar to halfway point > Click right bracket (}) > Blue line indicates first half > click ok > Browse for file output location > type in file name > Ok > Run.
Exit TMPGE ,go back in again and repeat steps except for using { for halfway start point and } for end of movie (again blue bar indicates second half).
This won't be exactly 700mb because you are dividing it timewise, but it should be close.
If you don't like this, you can try VIrtualdub which can cut by time or frames.

Well ive done over 400 movies and have. Im not the only one, search the forum and you'll see other have had it too. Now keep in mind this was with the older 12.X versions of tmpg so it may not apply anymore. Plus its ez'er to get the file sizes close to where you want. Most of the movies I do come out to be close to 1560mb so when I de/multiplex um I get close to 800mb a disk.

I guess it just depends on what you prefure.

Cutting by time and frames is effectively the same thing. How do you cut and save an mpeg with Virtualdub?

First of all...I stand corrected banjazzer....indeed you cannot cut MPEG with Vdub.
As for the first comment,I was trying to explain that using the Go-To function in Vdub is handy for using either a frame search or time search to start and stop the cut movie as needed (AVI ...of course).

I was hoping you had found a way to cut with Virtualdub. I want something as good for mpeg as Virtualdub is for avi. Or better still, as good as Nandub.

The point about times and frames is that the two are proportional, which is why splitting in half by time (or frame) is rarely the same as splitting in half by size, unfortunately. By the way, if you want to cut avi, I recommend Nandub, because it will cut to the nearest MB too. 8)
