  1. hey i guys, i know it says the higher the settings, the better the video, but is there a big difference. like if the settings were:CQ 90 or 95, would that be a big differencebetween 90 and 95? or is sometimes too high = poor video?

    CQ in what programm ? normally a higher cq setting should provide a better result, however depending on the program it may also take twice as long to encode...if you are talking about any encoder.. the difference between 90 and 95 for example may not be noticable...between 60 and 90 perhaps it is...but all depends on the programm..

    In TMPG, increases beyond 85 are difficult to detect. I have heard reports that CQ can be set too high, although I don't know if that is true.

    Your best bet (assuming you are using TMPG, as you don't say) is to use the source range feature and pick out a section of movie, and do a series of test encodes at varying CQ quality settings. Then you will know beyond any doubt if it is worthwhile going beyond 85. Personally, I only go between 75 and 85.
