  1. HELP ME!!!! I have gotten my hands on a DVD-writer that was never released to the market...or so I've been told. The following links contain information on my unit, but.........

    http://www.infotoday.com/it/jul99/news14.htm

    http://www.business2.com/articles/mag/0,1640,6114,FF.html
    (half way down the page)

    http://www.cdmediaworld.com/hardware/cdrom/news/9905/hp_dvd%2Brw.shtml

The above sites say that the units shipped with plenty of software, including Adaptec's Dircet DVD. Well, I have been to Adaptec, Roxio, HP and just about everywhere else and am told that there is no such animal.

What HP suggested I do was download about four different things off of their site and run each one until it either worked or didn't and if not, try calling them back. Well. I called them back and this time they want me to give them a credit card # and pay a "BIG" fee to maybe get an answer and maybe not get an answer. I think not.

Using Cyberlink Power DVD, I am able to play DVD movies, but in My Computer/Properties/Device Manager, under the "view device by type", it is listed with the CDROM's as a "CDROM".

I have tried using Nero 5.5 burning ROM. It will only allow me into CD authoring mode and not the DVD authoring mode. At least with the Nero Info Tool, I have seen that this unit is listed as a DVD-RAM w/2X write & 6X read. Although it did come with an authentic, genuine Hewlett Packard 3GB DVD+RW disk that, when inserted in the drive shows up as such with Nero Info Tool.

I may be shoveling out WAYYYYYYYyyyyy too much information and some of you have had to suffered through my tedious post, just so you could finally send me my "end-of-the-rainbow" answer and be rid of me.

However, on the outside chance that I really have a doozie of a problem, I figured that I had better add in all the information I have, just in case somebody needs a good starting point.

What would REALLY tickle me would be for someone to know of a site where it can all be gotten for free or know where to get an actual HP software CD that came with the unit. If I'm gonna dream, it's always gonna be BIG!!!!!!!!!

    One last thing!

GOD! Please send me the perfect answer through that one You've given the gift of healing computers. I thank You for the answer even now before it comes and believe that it is already on it's way. In Your Son's Name I pray, Amen!

Hey, why not call on the Big Guy? I've tried just about everything else!!!

it certainly looks like a collectors item.

Since it burns to 3 gig disks, it is useless for set top dvd making.

  3. So then, am I to understand that it will not burn to any other format? If this is so, then it is sad, but surely there is some way to fool it into doing
more. If anyone knows where a sofrtware package for this unit could be found, I would really like to know.
