I took a .AVI file that I created off of a VOB with FFMPEG. I opened the .AVI in Quicktime and exported it to a MPEG-2 file so that I can use VCD Tools to burn a SVCD.

But Quicktime broke the .AVI into a .M2V and .AIF file. Why is QT doing that ? What I want is just a .MPG file that is MPEG-2 Compliant. (Audio and Video Together)

How can you get a VOB to a MPEG-2 file going the easiest path?

Use mplex from the mjpegtools suite. FYI, since the Quicktime MPEG-2 encoder comes from DVD Studio Pro, it seeks to only make files 100% acceptable to DVDSP, i.e., elementary MPEG streams (and, in the case of audio, uncompressed PCM audio with an AIFF header). Using the Quicktime MPEG-2 encoder will make an MPEG-2 video stream thats outside the SVCD spec.

Can you tell me the best way to go from a DVD to SVCD ? I have been trying for months and I can't get it to work.

MPipe doesn't work for me. It just crashes.
I can't get any streams to MUX properly, the sync is always off
QT Mutilator doesn't seem to do the trick either.
OSex QT option is only for angles
QT makes it's own version of MPEG-2
AIFF's and PCM are not .MP2's and there is no MAC utility to convert them
BBDemux takes VOBS to .M1V not .M2V

I keep reading in this forum and it looks like people are cranking out SVCDs with no problem but I just can't get it to work right.

    Do you know how ?

  4. follow any of the proven processes available here

If mediapipe quits then remove the Mpipes folder, the app and everything and reinstall the latest version. Be sure you have Developer Tools installed.

I don't have developers tools installed, is that my problem with Mpipe ?

FYI, I don't have it installed because my HD is partitioned and there isn't enough room on SYS Disk, can I partition again without loss of data ?

    Major,

Also, all of the methods on that page skip one major step. It says start with a high quality source from iMOVIE, DVD etc ... Then it jumps right to Quick Time. How do you get the VOB into Quicktime and synched properly, those steps are not included.

MissingMpegTools & Mediapipe allow VOB input
