I read in another forum that even if you have a source DVD player with macrovision gone and region free (updated apex 1500 for instance), the Panasonic DMR-E20 or DMR-E30 will not make the copy to -R or -RAM. Does any one have any actual experience with this and has made just such copies?
I would also like to archeive my VCR tapes to -R using the DMR-E20 OR DMR-E30 but am wondering if i need one of those video stabilizers you see on ebay (for $40) between VCR and DMR-E30. Is there any other way around the protection than the $40 solution?

well its not macrovision its the Serial Copy Mangement thats incoded on all DVD's and its chipped for "no record" on ALL Home DVD Recorders, but I have found one DVD player that you can hack the Bio's that will allow you to backup any DVD, its the Sampo 631CF, sells for $169 I got a $30 rebate also on mine. I have both the DMR-E20 and DMR-E10 and using the Sampo for solely backing up DVD's I record works perfect, once the hack has been done, its a file burn on a CD-R/CD-RW that hacks it for Macrovion and Serial Copy Mangement free, get one in a hurry this won't last long as soon as Hollywood finds out they will make them take out this option.

I tried using the Sima Copymaster with my DMR-E30. It completely laughed at me and would not record.
On the advice of another site, I tried the Zorilla Video Filter (as far as I know, this is the name). It worked like a charm. So far, I have only copied VHS tapes.
When I purchased it on 10/18, it cost $139+$10 s/h.

An alternative you may wish to consider.
