  1. Currently Im creating XVCD's from DivX avi's.
My player (Sony DAVS300) does not play SVCD'

    My settings are:

    Res 480x576 (PAL)
Bitrate max 2300 (found through trial and error)
    CQ method at 90
    Audio at 128K

The results are very good. I know that I could try to create SVCD and use the header trick to get it to play but I have a couple of questions

    1) Seeing as my res and bitrate are nearly SVCD spec, what is the point of encoding using MPEG2 rather than MPEG1 ? Is MPEG2 noticeably better quality ?

    2) If I use the header trick to get a SVCD to play in my player will I need to drop the bitrate to 2300 ?

    thanks

  2. One difference is SVCD(mpeg2) supports interlaced video. VCD(mpeg1) does'nt.
