problems with tmpgenc

every time i open tmpgenc and click on file/open new project and load a video file whether it be avi or mpeg I get illegal stream format and it wont open. Im trying to get to virtual dub to see if file is pal,ntsc or whatever. I can open a file with the wizard or browse but cant get the file to convert from wide screen to full. On advanced tab/virtual resolution the resolution numbers cannot be changed(blocked). Still cant get this thing to work. can someone help?

First of all you don’t open a new project when you are loading an AVI or MPG, You can see that the default extension is "tpr" that should have told you it wont load movies.

You hit the Browse button to select the AVI, once loaded click the "Load" and load a VCD template.

You can now click setting > Advanced > Full screen
However if you try to convert a movie with black borders to full screen, you will stretch the frame and loose the sides. You suppose to select full screen > keep aspect ratio

If the original is almost full screen you can select setting > Advanced > Clip frame and experiment on how much you can remove while selecting full screen
