Playback of menus created with nero

This is my first post so please understand if this topic should be elsewhere, i've checked FAQ and some history of posts on this site but despite some related issues i carn't see the problem listed anywhere the way that i'm experiencing it.

First off i'm working with Windows XP, using Nero 5.582 to burn VCD's and playing back on Power DVD4.

Now i've read the tutorial here about burning simple menus with Nero, no problems following the instuctions or creating/burning the VCD, but when i come to play back the VCD the player in disc mode refuses to play past the opening menu page.

I'm thinking that it's something i've missed in either Nero options/set-up, or the same with Power DVD or there are issues with some playback software not recognising menus!

I'd appreciate any help i can get.

"refusses to play past the opening menu" you meant even after you select menu number (1,2,3..) and depress [OK] or [Play] button?

Thanks whomever you are for that observation, it hadn't occured to me that there should be a number pad on my playback software, the default skin (Sony realist) didn't have one!
I've been burning videos without any extras, menus and so on, the VCD's i'd burnt played straight through when in play back, so i guess i was expecting the same result almost like an opening page.
