  1. I am new to this. I have recently downloaded a DIVX movie from the net and would like to burn it to CD as VCD. What is the easiest way to do this. There are loads of programs on this site, but don't know what is best. I ahve tried to use various software, but with no joy.

All recommendations will be greatly recieved.

Most downloads only need 2 programs.

Vdub, to check for bad frames, edit, cut etc and TMPGEnc to convert to mpeg 1. If all goes well this is very simple.

  4. yes convert with tmpenc (dload in tools) if you dont see a picture the youll need to cahange a setting , goto options>env settings> vfapi plugin>youll see direct show multi media right click and make it higher priority until it has a value of 4 that should let you convert and you should now see the video in the preview screen . if you have audio probs youll have to extract it and convert to audio see the how to guides for divx to vcd they help alot

I get all sorts of error messages when I try to convert directing the audio and video through tmpenc. It works OK when I use another program to convert to .wav format. Does this reduce the audio quality???

Apart from those 2 programs, you will also need all the codec's. Download the Nimo codec pack.

When you save out the audio, you should be saving it as uncompressed at a frequency that is used on VCD's (44.1khz)

    Vdub
    Audio > Full processing mode
    Audio > Conversion > 44.1Khz
    SAVE WAV

That's now ready for TMPGEnc, the quality should remain about the same, there will be a slight improvement in the conversion speed.

Sometimes the audio in a DVD rip is AC3, if this is the case you need to use Vdub AC3

    Or from Kazaa
