Help making a backup copy of dvd movie without ripping

I know this is not the right place to talk about making a backup copies of movies you own (DVD). I have American Pie and other DVD's I want to make a backup copy of it. I have tried the ripping to hd and following some guides but it is too damn confusing to me.

I like to use pinnanlce express since it is simple I take the avi captured from studio 7 put in pinnancle express select DVD put my disk and goto bed, when I wake up it is done.


I am understand how to take VHS movies and putting them on DVD with my pinnancle studio Dlux and express Plus a color corrector to remove the protection.

I had an idea instead of backing up by ripping. I thought I could use the same proccess for VHS capture to AVI, but use a DVD Player with protection removed with a hardware device. Capture to HD as a AVI then do the rest with pinnanlce express( encodes and burns). The backup copy might not be the same quality but I want something easy and not confusing like the ripping guides.

Has anybody done this or thought about it.
Any idea would be appreciated to me and other users

Sure, it can be done, but DVDs have 2 forms of "copy protection": encryption (which won't bother you during analog capture) and macrovision (which probably will rear its ugly head) if you go DVD to VHS.

I can remove the macrovision, I have been doing this for VHS. SO I will give it a try. Thnks.

I know that people that have the stand alone recorder say they can not copy a dvd this way put I think it is because they did not remove the macrovision. I have heard of hacks for your dvd player but I still like the hardware for this.

in da beginning i used to back up my dvd's using a two pc setup (or hardware dvd player later on.) i too, have no prob with macrovision, for vhs or otherwise. PC 1-source-: dvd-rom 12x, windvd tweaked for tvout etc,,, PC 2 AIW 128 Pro Line in , virtual dub.
PC 1- played the dvd, real time (no ripping editing etc,...), S-Video out, Creative PC-Encore dvd-rom & Card---to
PC 2- Capture s-video in with virtualdub to avi or straight to mpg2 - with ATI AIW's profile with Stinky's tool tweaked,,,, cut to fit cdr and burn...
