You need VirtualDub version 1.3c and the SMR Codec.

    Available Here: http://www.vcdhelp.com/tools.htm

Scroll down to the Editing/Join/ Cut section and there you shall see it!!!

"I pity the fool who trys this" from Mr. T. The A-Team.

I spent a MONTH trying to convert an ASF to MPEG(VCD).
I finally went out and downloaded the dvd rip of the movie instead.
BUT, if you must, I wish you all of the luck in the world.

BTW:If you get this to work you will have hundreds, if not thousands, of
VCDHelp members climbing all over you for "How did you, and What did
you do..., Did you use this....What settings...." I only say this cause
I did it to the ones who helped me through the whole thing, which I gladly
    accepted and really appreciated.

    Goodluck!

It is possible to convert ASF to VCD. One program that is worth trying is GraphEdit.

Take a look at the tutorial at:
    http://www.digtv.ws/html/convert/graphedit.php

The example on this page shows conversion of WMV to AVI, but I tried it with a ASF video file and it worked ok.

Once you have an AVI file you will be able to convert that to MPEG with any of the tools mentioned on this site.

  5. minor problems here: one....the SMR codec cannot be downloaded from that site.
two:GraphEdit freezes and ceases towork after i load the video and try to add filters...this is most likely due to the fact that i am running Windows XP.

any other help is greatly appreciated
