    Hello owners of Pioneer A04!

Can you select the 2x option for DVD burning in Nero WITHOUT having a DVD-R in the drive?

Does Nero first check the disc and THEN let you choose burning speed?

  3. Yes, only if your media has been detected as 2x compatible and NO, if it can only do 1x.

  4. Hello,

Yes you can select between 1x or 2x wrting within Nero.
However, this is not possible it you have ASPI 4.60.
Upgrade to ASPI 4.71 and you can select the writing speed.
Using Nero 5.5.9.0. and ASPI 4.71 myself, I can select between 1x or 2x writing.
    Why this is, dunno !

  5. I hate to sound dumb but I am so frustrated with my HP200i I can't think straight. Where did you get the update for the ASPI layer?

No. All this update will give you is the ability to select a 2X burn option IF the DVD-R is capable of burning at 2X. DVD-RW disks are always going to burn at 1X - no matter what you do.
