Hi Guyz!
I just tried to do some converting stuff from divx to svcd and experienced some problems.
First this is what i used to do it:
tmpgenc 2.53 something
virtual dub 1.4.10
source movie divx 5.0
What i wnated to do is to encode the avi file with tmpgenc to 2 cds! for this i used the wizard to convert it. i started doing the first part of the movie from first frame to the (last div 2). the audio part was extracted with virtual dub before to avoid sync probs. so tmpgenc encoded the first part 100%. no audio sync problems and no errors occurred! so the second part of the movie from (last div 2) frame to last frame started! tmpgenc creates as before the temporary audio file and thats it!! yeah you read right! after creating a temporary audio file in my admin/temp directory (files called mpa_2.mpa and mpa_2.wav where mpa is 0 byte and wav is 458mb) tmpgenc completly quits its work! the dos windows dissapears and the tmpgenc windows as well! no error warning!! no info why it quits. fact is that it is impossible to do the 2nd cd at all! please can anyone help with advanced theories? i know that its possible to cut the movie before encoding it but this gets alot of sync problems and i wanted to try it with tmpgenc!
but where is the problem? does tmpgenc do not know how to encode when starting in the middle of a wav file?
btw this problem from quitting all work does only appear if you choose source range and the from frame is not first one!
any ideas?![]()

I seem to recall I had a similar problem when using the batch list option with Toolame as my mp2 encoder. Do you happen to be using an external plugin for the audio?

i think its been mentioned here and what i suggest anyway is to always strip the audio off the divx and do it seperate. i just use avi_info to do that .. but there are a tonne of ways .. i see avi2svcd app mentioned here a lot (something like that i think) maybe something to check out .. im sure whatever its called it does the same thing --

So... I think i have to say that i did of course use the toolame 0.2h as external plugin for better sound quality. What my problem is that i think before even the log file of the job could be written tmpgenc crashes. I tried to debug but it crashes without any errors. In my oppinion it crashes even before using the toolame.
But i also tried some other ways with disabling toolame. And see what happened now. tmpgenc works for about 8 hours (with toolame it were only 2 hours) and then creates the mpg file. You can see some failure window for a second and then tmpgenc crashes again. Even without toolame it does not work. But movie was completely done. And now the more beatufil thing is:
(Fasten seatbelts please. Thatz a fact.)
When playing the file under windows it works fine. Just did some tests of it. When trying to write with nero always crashes with buffer underun. Even when simulating (which always works for me) it does crash. So i tried to copy the file tmpgenc created with failure somewhere and see what it does. Windows Explorer in Windows 2000 does not even want to start copying the file. When i used win commander for the job he starts and at about 75% of the file it stops with read error message. Then tried Windows Explorer again and it starts reading the file and moving it to another hdd. At about 75% of the file whole windows freezes a bit and then the explorer tells me that the file has some CRC FAILURE! What is that? I cannot believe that windows explorer works with some crc check??!?!?#@ weird eh? I deleted the file and started the whole thing over again! Same result. And again and again same result. So i tried to get the clue for it and played the file with software dvd player and it played without any stopps or crashes. So the file must be okay but why can't i copy, move or burn it? Then i did some hdd check with windows 2000 at startup and now the file is copyable to another hdd.
Please guys tell me what the heck is going on with it! Is it tmpgenc which creates some hdd problems? I tested the whole drive with ontrack and there weren't even hardware errors also smart does not tell me any problems at all. And it only happens with this movie so far. So where is the problem with tmpgenc?
HELP!
ps. BJ_M: as i told before i used to seperate the audio from the movie to avoid sync problems! but even with this the fact is that cd1 (from start to middle of divx movie) works fine but cd2 (from middle to end of divx movie) doesn't even work with seperating the audio! it has alot of sync problems and even those mathematics to calculate the milliseconds to move audio or video don't work! and by the way i used to check alot of apps before and all of them had problems with those different formats and stuff. so i just chose tmpgenc because it handles all the files in one app. it works really fine and fast and you can even use plug ins for better usage and qualithy. and at last it is the best app out there even with updating the builds from week to week for further advance of the program itself.WaLLY..... -
to say it some better way:
when using toolame, there is some window showing up, right?
even before there is some tmpgenc window showing up, right?
i think tmpgenc says creating temporal wav file or something like it and then it crashes! doing some other work it says using external plugin. this seem to mean the toolame! so tmpgenc crashes when doing the temp wav file job.
or is the wav file i found in my temp directory the one from temporal wav file creation and the mpa file the one from toolame? because the mpa is 0 bytes and the wave file seems okay! so its toolame that quits!!!WaLLY..... -
i am sorry i did not read your original post completly ..
so - basicly , cd1 works fine - no problems ..
problem is cd2 for this film ... so what is different for cd2 ?
it was cut .. and i suspect the tool that cut the movie caused your problems .. (not you)
i would try to use virtualdub and cut the first 1 sec from cd2 ..
then try again ...
this would be my first step
