I am trying to make an SVD with subtitles. I use the Smartripper-DVD2AVI-TMPGEnc route. So then I downloaded Submux, SubRip and SubRipper, I then used SubRip and made the subtitles, but now I can't see how to add them to the movie. Please help. I don't want to have to type out every subtitle.

those may not be want you want but they are the defenitive bible on captioning -
Not exactly what I was looking for. I can get the programs I have to extract the subtitles, I need to know how to merge them with the Svcd file I have.

use I-Author's Multiplexer
Open I-Author's Multiplexer. Choose your video file. Choose your audio file. Enable "OGT active". Choose Sub OGT #1 , it is the .txt you need. You can add up to four different subtitles (OGT #2, etc.). -
http://www.vcdhelp.com/svcdsubs.htm is where i got that -- for credit due to author

I-Author isn't free and I don't even think its being sold anymore.
Doesn't Submux come with documentation? My version did and with that its pretty self explanatory how to use it. Put all your bmp's, corresponding txt files, and mpg in the same dir as Submux. Run submux gui, load your mpg and the txt for each sub stream. Select either CVD or SVCD depending on your standalone (most use CVD) and hit start.
Maybe you should try WinSubMux, its basically an improved version and the interface may be a little more intuitive. -
yea and i even forgot i posted this in another thread ...
load source into VirtualDub ....and with VirtualDub, add Filters from Video menu and add VobSub filter -- select the main movie's VOB file you've ripped and select the correct subtitle language, subtitle colors, etc and click Ok to exit from Filter list.
and you know what to do from there .. -
I tried submux, but it did not recognize the Mpeg2 file I had just finished encoding. I will try winsubmux.
-
I just tried winsubmux. Filled all of the fields and tried to start, but I got the error:
" is an invalid integer
Anyone know what is going on? -
Yes I got that too from winsubmux "an invalid integer "
I think I miss something here, I got the answer for Baldrick
http://www.vcdhelp.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=107552&highlight=subtitle
But he might be busy so what he gave me was very short. I have tried by myself but got the same thing. Maybe I did wrong in some steps.
I have tried to look in the DVD2SVCD program, it uses winsubmux, but could not find the program used to extract subtitle. So I don't know what is the program DVD2SVCD is using to extract subtitle, but it seems that program does not need to recoginize the characters anymore.
I'm using I-Author and the subrip for subtitle but the .cif is only for EZ CD 4.0x only and it could support only CD-burn fastest @ 24X. I got a new CD-Burner 48x which EZ CD 4.05 could not recognize. I plan to use Winsubmux and VCD-image or VCDEasy. So the subtitle is needed now.
Anyone could help us......PLease.... -
If you want to stick to I-Author then use the latest version of CDMage to convert the cif file to bin and cue which can be burnt in most burning software. As far as I am concerned, there is absolutely no reason to have EZ CD Creator installed. It is a useless piece of software.
-
Thanks, I already tried that, the cdmate could do it. It could not even open the .cif. It said wrong format.
-
You have to use the latest version, as in Beta. It works, I do it all the time. Even if you purposefully invoke an error in the disk image, ex: use too many menu's...I-Author bug, CDMage will still open the .cif file, it will just report an error.
-
I'm not sure what that has to do with this thread but yes I have done that. As long as the total size of all your mpgs + multiplexing and any additional files does not exceed 800MB's then it will fit on an 80 min cdr without overburning.
You can have up to 99 tracks (I suppose only 98 video tracks?) just so long as the total size does not exceed the capacity of the disk. -
Could you please explain how I can put two VCD to one? I think it will not be simple just put them together, does it need any software?
Thanks -
"Easiest" way to rip DVD with subs is to use DVDX2.0 for ripping with subs, but set-up Videoserver + Avisynth so that the enconding is done with TMPGEnc for decent quality. Once you have everything set, and you have calculated the bitrate, it takes only a minute from selecting the correct IFO to start encoding with TMPGEnc, and the resulting MPG (with subs) is ready to burn with Nero. No additional steps, and you'll only need 800MB diskspace for only the resulting MPG (yes, I split the movie manually with DVDX using start-point and max-frames, auto-splitting doesn't work if you use external encoders [splitting MPEG-2's hangs my TMPGEnc])
BTW, anybody tried using CCE-plugin with DVDX? I can get to CCE-setups, but MIN/MAX/AVG bitrates always reset to 500 when I press 'Apply' ??? Getting CCE to work with DVDX would be the ideal solution for easy ripping straight from DVD, and even with subs -

I have already tried CDmage with the new version.
A SVCD (.cif) with simple menu, after convert with CDmage it doesn't work, just show the first menu.
The other SVCD (.cif) has no menu, only movie (.MPS for mux of I-author), after convert it does work fine.
Well, you're right about not too complicated menu will work after converted with CDmage.
However, I feel I still need to know how to extract subtitle to use with Winsubmux and mux with EasyVCD or VCDimage. Anyone know this please help....... -
chjan, no offense but that seems like a very silly conclusion to me. We are talking about disk images here, CDMage is either going to work or its not. Your not going to somehow preserve the menu and lose the video track or vice versa. The fact that it worked when there was no menu suggests that everything was normal, both in the conversion and in the authoring of the SVCD. The fact that with menu you get only that menu during playback suggests that CDMage did work but that your authoring was incorrect.
Did you link the menu to your video track in at least 1 way and did you invoke that command during playback? Try setting the video track as the start item instead of the menu and i bet you anything it will play and the menu wont, confirming that the problem lies with your authoring. I have authored literally hundreds of subbed, menu'd SVCDS in I-Author and converted to bin and cue in CDMage. I'm telling you, even with a very complex menu structure the method is foolproof.
To rip subs for use in Winsubmux use subrip and rip to Philips SVCD Designer format with 8bit bitmaps. In Winsubmux you must try both CVD and SVCD style subs because most dvd players only support one or the other or neither. Sorry I don't know what is causing that invlid integer error but Winsubmux does appear to still be very buggy. All I can say is that the I-Author method does work so my best advice is to use that.
