8) I was wondering what most people feel are the best programs to use in the process of making a high quality VCD for use in a DVD player??
(process- from converting a normal video file to burning onto cd-r)

Ulead video studio for DV, virtualdub for analogue capture, TMPGEnc for encoding and Nero for burning.

You said Ulead video studio for DV...but I don't have a video camera. I'm maily interested in d/l videos and preparing for a high quality VCD.
are these programs the best for doing that? -
Well if youre downloading you just need TMPGEnc to encode, assuming that they are not already VCD complian MPEGs (most are divx), and nero to burn.

also...what's the best program for creating professional looking menus, backgrounds, chapters and stuff that is not incredibly hard to use?...heh heh.

Nero can create simple menus, with backgrounds and thumbnails. There are other authoring packages which are more complex, but I dont have any experience with them.
