  1. I new at this vcd stuff. I downloaded Shrek from WinMX. I have NERO 5.5 (support for avi). I burned a vcd. Played it in my Playstation (with movie card adapter,of course) and very blocky, slow, distorted sounding playback occurred. Plays perfectly on computer as a avi and vcd plays in a vcd player software on computer. Why doesn't play on PSX?

    Thnks,
    Mark...

Its playing badly because of your media. The psx is pretty picky about media, especially when playing vcds. If the psx can read your media then the quality should be about the same as on your pc.

Try these suggestions in this order:

Clean the lens on the psx. Just wipe it with a damp cloth.

Turn psx upside-I know it sounds stupid but it works. The laser in the psx is one cheap piece of hardware. By turning it upside down it pushes it closer to the disk allowing it to read it easier.

Try burning on different media, maybe try several different brands. Remember when it comes to media you get what you pay for.

Try burning slower, it sucks but depending on your hardware (burner and psx model)and media sometimes burning at 1x is the only solution.

If your psx is an older model or has been played alot then the laser might just be worn out. Sometimes replacing the laser is the only solution. Honestly I would say just buy a cheap dvd player.
