I used TGMPenc to convert a movie to mpg from avi. I edited out a few things and now I am using Virtualdub to save as avi.
I followed the instructions here to the T
http://www.vcdhelp.com/avi2divx.htm
When I click save as AVI and it begins, it gives me a message about using a hacked compression driver (DIVX) but I just skip the message anyways b/c I assuming the directions are on this website for a reason, people have tested this and used it, and it works.
Anyways, when it begins, it doesnt appear to do anything but the timer ticks away. I waited and waited and waited...but nothing. The video and audio sample stays at 0 whereas when I have used this before, it seems to work out ok.
I am doing this b/c I am backing up episodes of MST3K and a lot of them are 710mb, and I edited out some stuff so it will fit on a 700mb CDr. Now that I edited it, I need to convert them back to AVI.
Has this happened to anyone else and/or what is the solution?
Thanks.

Did you already post this somewhere else ?
Video > Direct stream copy
Audio > Direct stream copy
SAVE AVI
You can edit out things you don't want in a .mpg with TMPGEnc, using split/merge you don't need to convert it back and forth
