  1. I got a divx format of movie that I would like to watch in a standalone DVD player, but I have some questions about the size of it.
As I know, you can put about 80Min of video in an 80 min. cd (700MB), but with the final size of it, it's impossible to do it.
I'm using TMPG Enc. to do it, choosing NTSC format of VCD and the final size is bigger than 800MB.
What's going on? What's the real maximum lenght of a 700MB cd in NTSC VCD format?
Thanks for all those who read this.

  2. As Churchill famously predicted when Chamberlain returned from Munich proclaiming peace in his time: "You were given the choice between war and dishonor. You chose dishonor, and you will have war."

When you convert a DivX movie your going to end up with something twice as big. DivX is a different format to the mpeg 1 used on VCD's.

When you have converted the AVI to mpeg, if it is too big then you need to split it over several 80 Min disks

When you select "VCD" either program will set up the parameters auto.

Yeah. Now I see that. I could burn all the movie with an 800MB file into a 700MB cd. I can see now that the method of recording a VCD is different and you really record 800MB in it. That's incredible.
Thank all of you for the help. :P

This is rather a sweeping statement, it all depends on the bitrate of the divx. I have converted some divx to vcd, where the resulting mpeg is smaller than the original divx avi file. The reason for this is that they were very high quality, high bitrate divx encodes.
