I have AVI files that I would like to frameserve using Virtual Dub, to convert into MPG files using TMPEG Encoder. However, I am unsure of what to do regarding the file's color depth settings.
Virtual Dub's help file (under "Contents>Advanced Topics>Frameserver>Setting up the Frameserver") states that video output depth does not function in Frameserver mode, and that "Frames are always sent in 24-bit color. Note that the decompression color depth is used."
When I open up the original AVI file in Virtual Dub, and look under "File>File Information," the AVI Information window lists "Uncompressed RGB16" under "Decompressor."
I do not want to change the quality of the video that I send through the frameserver. What option should I select for decompression color depth ("Video>Color Depth"): 16-bit (HiColor/32K), or 24-bit (TrueColor/16M)? I would appreciate any help.
