  1. Hi, i've recently downloaded a movie and have tried to convert the avi file to vcd (mpg). I am using AVI2VCD. But when i try and encode the files i get the following message

Source Video uses compressed audio! avi2vcd cannot encode compressed audio!

I have tried using TMPG, but this takes 2-3 hours and then the film sound is slightly out of sinc. does anyone know what i can do please?

  2. Yes...you can try extracting the audio using Virtualdub then save as a WAV file.Use the resulting WAV as the audio source in TMPGE then enocode. The temporary WAV will be quite large by the way.

Then it sounds like you may not have done it properly. I believe a wav file should open in TMPG without the need to make any adjustments to TMPG.

However, you could try altering the priority of the wav file reader in VFAPI plugins.

It's not really clear what you are doing exactly. Are you now using TMPG or avi2vcd? If the latter, can avi2vcd not use the wav file you created, since compressed audio was your initial problem?

Perhaps if you load the avi into virtualdub and post the file information you see we may be able to help further.

  9. There is another utility called decompress.exe that is a part of the avi2vcd distro. This must be used since avi2vcd by default will not work if the avi being converted contains compressd audio. There should be a readme concerning that as well. If you don't have that part, then you should probably grab a fresh copy of avi2vcd.

I know that I am a super n00b here... haven't even made my first VCD yet, but I have already run into that exact problems with AVI2VCD

    HTH!

ADDENDUM: Since I have now made a successful VCD and learned a lot in one day, I can stronly recommend NOT using the decompress.exe since it seems to NOT be the best way of changing the audio.

A big part of any project is having the right tools for the job. Get VirtualDub, get TMPGEnc, get [etc...] and read through all the guides. Worked for me!
