Okay I know how to convert asf to mpeg but it always turns out to be an awful quality. I use Tmpgenc to do that. Is there some way to convert asf so it'll be a better quality? Should I convert to avi first then to mpeg? Should I change the properties to something on Tmpgenc before converting? If so, what should I change? That's all my questions.

If the original is rubbish, the the mpeg will also be rubbish.
Try a few settings in TMPGEnc, but start by loading a PAL/NTSC template
