  1. here are the problems:

dvd cannot be accessed at all...
it wont play, drag to hd, of ripped using smartripper

according to smartripper...i need to unlock the dvd before ripping, but to do so, i need to actually play the movie...which i cannot

why is this? ...perhaps of a very strong protection??

another thing, my friend found a cnet article dated feb. 02 that said this:

"Technical plans aren't final yet. But essentially a watermark would insert instructions directly into the movies that would tell DVD players and recorders whether a movie could be copied. If it was copied illegally, the movie could not be played on hardware that included the watermark-recognition technology. These instructions would theoretically be carried with the movie even if it was copied using a program such as SmartRipper"

could this perhaps be the problem? if so....can YOU help me find a solution?

  4. I am going to have to ask a potential real stupid question here. do you have DVD rom on your computer that you are putting the DVD into to play/extract.

Also, does this DVD play on your standalone DVD player?

  6. sorry, since you didnt fill out your technical/computer profile, I have to ask some questions like that. I am trying to think what it might be....region stuff on the DVD, but since it plays in your stand alone, which I assume you bought in the same country that your dvd rom was bought....nothing readily comes to mind. I have ripped A.I. with dvdx and it works great. I dont think I am going to be be able to help you.

  12. what software player(s) are you using to play DVD's? I am at a loss as to what the problem is. I am assuming that the DVD deosnt have scratches on it, your pc dvd player plays other dvd's.

The watermark issue wouldnt affect that because you cannot even play the DVD.

the only ideas that I would have is to play another DVD, pause it, take that one out and then put AI in there and try to play that one. The only other thing would be the copy of AI. Take it back to the store and get another one. It might just be the DVD itself????

    1) Does you DVD-ROM play any DVDs?
    2) What STUDIO put out the DVD?
    3) I really suspect that your DVD IS locked. Play another DVD to see if this unlocks the drive.
    4) The Watermark thing hasn't been implemented yet (though why they insist on spending money on something as easily defeated as that, I'll never know...).
    5) Does this DVD play in a set top player?
    6) What is your OS?
