  1. I am having an odd problem. Whenever I attempt to play an mpeg2 file in windows media player for xp, it searches for a codec and when it can't find it, it kills the computer and reboots. I have had this problem with encoded mpeg2's using tmpenc (old and new versions) and on mpegs I have captured using my nvidia xtasy everything capture card. I have the latest codecs from Huffy, Divx, etc. I don't have Nimo as I didn't think it would address the issue. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

This not an odd problem and this happens. For an MPEG2 video to play, must have a codec for it to work.

This can happen in a new computer trying to play a video clip which was captured in another computer.

My way out is to install a DVR program in the computer for the codec.

I've done this recently and this works. I just uninstall the DVR program later.

You should be able get a codec for it on this web site on the left side of this page. I remember downloading one from a DivX web site in the tools section.

  4. er... I have almost the same problem, all my dvd's always don't work, and reboot my computer. but my mpg2 files play fine. I even associated it with my power dvd and it still tries to open it with wmp. I miss my windvd...

Try installing PowerDVD XP, it comes with the right codec for mpeg 2, which will also be good for TMPGENc Plus 2.57
