  1. I have a bunch of old captured video files (mpg2 from ATI A-in-W) that I wanted to author with the new dazzle software. I was very disappointed to find some weird GOB error with my files. It turns out the mpg sequence when originally recorded was not a standard dvd compliant format (now GOB at every mark or whatever.) My question is, how do I convert one that doesn't have the GOB to one that does? Any help is greatly appreciated!!

(I have recently set my recorder to always do the right GOB thing but I still have the issue of my current recordings...)

Just try frameserving the thing to an encoder (TMPG or CCE). Frameserving eliminates the GOP structure (since it is emulating an AVI file), so your encoder will generate a completely new one.

  3. Use DVD2AVI for that purpose and export your project to TMPGenc.
That's all there is to it.
Same has happened to me sometimes with Avermedia's MPG2 capture software.

  4. Ok...

That seems like a great idea but won't making an AVI from my 1.7GB mpeg2 produce the biggest AVI file in the history of the world? Or is this not really a real AVI? Unless ... are you streaming the output of the DVD2AVI program into TMPGEnc?

On a side note... TMPGEnc requires a registration fee of $45 - I'm not terribly inclined to pay that much for encoding software... does it really come that highly recommended? Are there any freeware alternatives?

The other (and final) question I have - what is CCE and how would I 'frameserve' to it? Got any good reading / tutorials I might be able to look at to get a better idea of what I should do here? Thanks!

mpeg-2. Both Ulead Movie Factory and Premier have trial versions

I think TMPGEnc is a steal at that price.
    Hello.

  8. You just save a ".d2v" project which you take into TMPGEnc. About TMPGenc's price tag, You can be sure IT is THE encoder.

Besides, there's a trick to reset the MPG2 trial counter, if you cannot afford the CHEAPEST and BEST mpg encoder around.
