  1. I have a bunch of Divx files that i am making into SVCDs and I am currently encoding them into MPEG2 in TMPEnc. I orinally was using CBR but after reading im convinced that 2-pass VBR will give me better results. But when i was testing this out i was watching the log file which tell you the bitrates at which it will encode sections in. All of the video is going to be encoded in the minium bitrate that i set no matter how much motion is in the video. It alway reports motion as 0.00. Any ideas on what would cause this?

  2. Come on 44 views and no reply. Please just give the steps you use when you are doing a 2-pass VBR encode.

I suggest you select a small sample using the source range setting and see how it turns out. I have never had this happen either with 2-pass VBR or CQ. What settings have you put in for min and max bitrate?

dude this isn't irc...you can't expect instant answers. As to your question, your not going to see any results untill the encoder reaches 50%. Since you are using 2 pass, the first 50% is just a scan and analyse pass.

  5. Well, you know, some people think the world is their puppy, and will snap to attention when they cry. Perhaps those 44 views were by people that knew as little (or even less) than they did. I did a search on these boards and found the info you seek, and you can do the same.
As Churchill famously predicted when Chamberlain returned from Munich proclaiming peace in his time: "You were given the choice between war and dishonor. You chose dishonor, and you will have war."
