  1. Hello.. IM new to ripping. And I don't know whether you expert rippers consider this ripping or not. I am under windows XP Home . I put a DVD in my DVD-rom drive and then right clicked the drive in My Computer and clicked Explore. I right clicked the VIDEO_TS file folder and then copied it (to clipboard), then I pasted it to my desktop. It took about 15-20 minutes but it successfully downloaded to my desktop from the DVD. Then I opened Windows Media Player and chose to open a file, I opened the VIDEO_TS folder and selected all files to open and Windows Media Player played the movie is if it were still on my DVD. This amazed me and I got exited.. But the folder is heavy at 7.09GB. Now since I know how to rip (?) a DVD's raw A/V data to my HD, I need to know what to do now. Can anyone point me to where I can find the guide on how to convert the contents of this VIDEO_TS folder into a VCD compatible format and then burn this stuff? I was thinking about archiving a few DVD folders on my HD but manoman , that would eat up allota space (80GB HD)..

Uhh PS. Has anyone done this before. I know it isn't like ripping directly from DVD and converting to VCD (or whatever format) immediately. I thought I was going to have to use one of those Freewares or Sharewares to rip.

  2. But for some reason , WMP supported the IFO and BUP files (to navigate menus and switch chapters). And some other files. But it played the VOB files perfectly almost, you can change scenes but need to fast forward sometimes. I guess you dont need the Tittle Start files anyway when ur gonna make a VCD. The menu nav code either.

Your pornographic DVD was not copy protected (I haven't... I mean, my friend who has a lot of porno on DVD says that he hasn't seen one porno DVD yet that was copy protected).

I hate to burst your bubble, but this will work only with an unencrypted DVD, which has only one angle and one audio track. I guess that pure dumb luck was smiling over you and you happened to grab the only disk that your method will work with. (QUESTION FOR YOU: DO YOU REALLY THINK THAT THE HOLLYWOOD BOYS WOULD INVEST SO MUCH TIME AND MONEY IN A COPY PROTECTION SCHEME THIS RIDICULOUSLY EASY TO BEAT?)

Also, if PORNO offends you, then virtually all DVDs coming over from China are pirate and thus do not have a CSS key, so these are also unencrypted.

A legitimate offering from Hollywood will not work this way. I leave it to you to convince yourself of this.

  4. You did burst my bubble. I assumed that I could do this with all DVDs. So I guess this PORNO was not encrypted. Alls I care about is copying those anyway 8) ... But it would be nice to rip Hollywoods...

Well, you can... you just have to use those Freeware/Shareware rippers out there. Go to the guide that Truman pointed at. Study, study, study... learn, learn, learn. The learning curve is steep for this stuff, but you'll be surprised at how fast you can climb it.
