  1. I just bought a Philips DVDRW228 becasue my Lenco DVD02 can play +RW discs. Problem is however, that the DVD I made (mpg in tmpgenc, converted to vob in Ulead, burned with nero 5.5.9.0) only gets recognized
by my Lenco desktop player about 50% of the time. Even when it gets recognized, it takes about a minute or so.
I noticed that during that period, the DVD is spinning up several times as you get when you have a bad disc.
I've tried both HP and Philips media and I got a slighly better success rate when I updated to nero 5.5.9.0

Is this a physical problem with my player or is this a common issue?

    cheers

  2. It sounds like you're player is having trouble with the reflectivity of the disk. DVD+RW and -RW both have the same reflectivity as Dual layer DVD-ROM but you're player cannot adjust the optics to read it reliably.
    Try copying it to +R.
