I have a ATI wonder that allows me to capture mpeg-2 video real-time. It appears to use the onboard processor on the ATI card. Yet when I have to create a DVD, VCD or convert the MPEG2 to MPEG1 all software I have seens appears to use the PC processor instead of the ATI processor. This turns 5 min conversion into a 15-45 minute process. Can somebody please explain why this has to be?

Why don't you capture MPEG1 in real time to begin with ?
ATI MMC allows you to capture in MPEG1 as well (Go to Digital VCR->Custom, and edit any MPEG2 preset -> change it to MPEG1) -
My basic concern is that any NON-CAPTURE activity requires the use of the PC processor instead of the ATI processor that is geared for fast encoding and decoding. For example: I want to convert over 100 hours MPEG2 captured videos into MPEG4. I am stuck with the Pentium IV.
