I managed to download my first movie thanks to this great site.
But i have run into a small problem.
I have sound when i play the movie on my computor with real player,
when i try to convert the movie with TMPGEnc to mpeg it works fine but when i try to save the wav file with virtualdub to make a vcd.
I get the message
The requested audio compresion is not compatible with the input format.
Check that the sampling rate and channel count of the input match those of the requested format.
I would be grateful for any advice.
Does this make sense?

Sure it did...
Why do you use real Player ?, I guess it hijacked everything when you installed it...
When you converted the movie with TMPGEnc it works fine... So why do you need to save the WAV then ?
If it works then you don't need to play around with the wave file..
Some people here will shout save the audio before editing with TMPGEnc, well you don't need to do that, you only do that if you get any problems.
As for saving the audio, since you have not said that Vdub gives any errors when you loaded the AVI, then I guess a straight forward conversion and save will be just fine
Audio > Full processing mode
Audio > compression PCM (Default)
Audio > conversion > 44.1Khz
SAVE WAV
You now saved the audio uncompressed at 44.1Khz ready for TMPGENC
Another way would be to save the audio "As is"
Audio > direct stream copy
SAVE WAV
Your Vdub error, sounds like your trying to save the audio at a bitrate that's not supported in the codec selected (MP3) -
Thanks for that
My current problem is that when I convert the Divx to MPEG using TMPGEnc, on select source file screen the Audio file section is empty so I followed the instructions on separating the audio to a wav, but nothing happens, no wav file.
Audio > Full processing mode
Audio > compression PCM (Default)
Audio > conversion > 44.1Khz
SAVE WAV
I have tried this and that’s when I get the message
On the AVI Information screen in Vdub the compression section says unknown.
I have tried a straight conversion and tested the MPEG using media player and no sound!
What bitrate should I save the audio at.
I feel I am nearly there!I will never learn -
Ok, you need to make sure you have the audio codec. If you have already installed the Nimo codec pack, then you could also try www.divx.com If the audio is AC3 you should have got a warning in Vdub
Does this work
Audio > direct stream copy
SAVE WAV
You can also download a AC3 version of Vdub

You said you can play it with no sound, assuming its not a fake, then Vdub should at leased identify the Video codec if not the audio, it could be Divx 5.02 but there again it could be a fake
