I have a Sony DCR-TRV520 and have not done anything with it other than record a bunch of dv tapes. I would like to edit and burn on cd, or dvd, whatever has better resolution or pixels so I can skip to whatever part of the movie I want and just play videos easier, if that's possible.

DV Camera -> FireWire card -> computer -> transfer DV avi -> edit DV avi (ULEAD VideoStudio, Premiere, etc) -> encode to mpeg1 or mpeg2 (TMPEGENc) -> author VCD, SVCD, DVD (ULEAD MovieFactory, etc) -> watch VCD, SVCD, DVD -> read the 1,000s of other suggestions and tutorials on this site.
