Finally dumped my Dell "Premium" Movie Studio Bundle (a pile of junk) and just got myself a Firewire card and the Canopus ADVC-100.
Everything installed easily the first time and worked perfectly capturing in Premiere.
But I have a question -
Is there a difference between different programs and capturing DV or are they all the same? Is there a better program for capturing DV?
Thanks for any suggestions

DV transfer-wise, it shouldn't really matter what software you use...theoretically.

The main difference is whether you capture to Type1 or Type2. Quality is not different, but the editing programs are designed for one or the other. Premiere uses Type2 and will incorrectly report the frame size of a Type1. ULEAD is standardized on Type1.
Bottom line, capture in the format your editor requires. Premiere by default captures to Type2.
Scenalyzer is a great DV capture program which allows you to index complete tapes and capture in either format. Many people using DV seem to prefer Scenalyzer to other capture programs.
