Just make it region free when you rip it with smart ripper/ dvd decrypter etc then it will play on all machines

For all intents and purposes, region 1 is NTSC, region 2 is PAL, and it is likely that the disks follow suit. While your PC can correctly play a rip of either, your DVD player and TV might not, unless they are both dual standard. Ripping should make the rip regionless, but there are still the broadcast standards to deal with.
As Churchill famously predicted when Chamberlain returned from Munich proclaiming peace in his time: "You were given the choice between war and dishonor. You chose dishonor, and you will have war."
