I'm trying to convert a DivX file to VCD. I'm using Virtual Dub to extract the wav file to use as a source in TmpgEnc. When I try to save a Wav, the following messages appears:
1- ACM faild to suggest audio decompression format.
2- AVI output WAV: invalid identifier

    Can someone help me?

  2. virtua dub will only extract some divx's audio without using extra codecs
check the .nfo file from your divx and see what they used for the audio
you may find that its either AC3 or OGG if it's either of those you need to install the right codecs first.

    OGG codec - http://tobias.everwicked.com/oggds.htm

and for AC3 there is a guide on how to extract that audio

    AC3 to WAV guide - http://www.vcdhelp.com/tmpgenc.htm#ac3

also theres an AC3DIVX to VCD guide - http://forum.vcdhelp.com/userguides/91588.php

    hope that helps 8)

  3. For codecs - installing the Nimo pack solved all my compatibility problems

For audio extraction, I find that if I decompress the audio first I get no errors - I use the decompress utility that is bundled in with avi2vcd

Naturally you need the codec's, (Nimo codec pack)

    3 methods

    1
    Audio > full processing mode
Audio > compression > PCM (Default)
    Audio > conversion > 44.1khz
    SAVE WAV

This saves the audio as uncompressed at 44.1Khz

    2 (if its an AC3)
    Audio > Direct stream copy
    SAVE WAV
Convert with headac3he AC3 to WAV

    3
    Try Vdub AC3 http://www.digital-digest.com/dvd/downloads/virtualdub.html

The error you got, sounds like your trying to use a bitrate on a codec that’s not available, even though its listed under compression.

If all else fails, use Direct stream copy and save the "wav" file. Change the extension to mp3 and see if it plays. If it does, convert to wav by standard means. I just came across a DivX and this was the only way I could get at the audio. 8)
