  1. i dint know where to post it so here it goes!

i bought a VCD and when i tried to click on the cd-rom drive it said that the disc was not compatable with windows or it was corrupted, i could not access the disc but it was working fine in a standalone VCD player.
in nero burning rom i went to the disc info. and it showed mode 2/xa 623 mb in the disc.
then i used a program called isobuster and extracted the video frames to my HDD & a new file was made which was .mpeg and it was playing in PowerDVD but at the bottom every frame of the movie some blocks appeared.
when i played it in Windows Media Player the movie did not work..after fwding a bit (29 secs) it worked and the blocks which were seen in PowerDVD also disappeared. i tried to play it in powerDVD but the blocks were there and in powerDVD the movie did not get stuck in the beginning like it did in Windows Media Player.
then i tried to cut the beginning 29 secs of the movie but the movie did not open in Virtual Dub or in TMPEGenc ..when i tried to open the movie in these programs it said that it could not recognise the format or it was invalid format.
now i dont know what to do..
    somebody help me

  3. answers: this is not a Instant Messaging forum or you didnt include enough information or the people that looked at it didnt know the answer.

Not that my reply to your second post is done, here is a question that would help me and others answer your question. When you put the vcd into your computer (assuming pc since you mentioned windows) did you try to open the .dat file and play it. A possible answer (without knowing things that would be included in the correctly filled out computer details section) is that your computer does not have the correct player installed to play vcd. Without knowing your O/S or version of windows media player you were using, I am taking a stab at a solution. Your computer does not have a vcd player installed on it (windows media, nero's player etc. take a stab at it with pointing to the .dat file in one of the folders on the CD), but they may not autoplay vcd's.

It also sounds like the vcd is a noncompliant vcd. What are the specs on the vcd: resolution rate, bit rate, audio rate, and is it a true vcd? When you said you bought it, did you buy it from a store?

  4. i could not open the .dat file bec. i could not access my cd-rom (i got the error that disc is in invalid format and cannot be recognised by windowsor it is corrupted) and the 1st disc of the movie was working.. & i have the all codecs for divx and even media player is installed, everything else works perfectly.
i dunno the resolution of the movie, but it is burnt in mode 2/xa format.
the disc works in any standalone vcd player.
i bought it from a friend and he says that he cannot replace it coz it works in the vcd player.

  5. hm. some friend

It sounds like it wont work because you cant even get your cd drive to recognize the cd??? To split hairs here, when you put it in the cd rom tray and close it, it give you the error. Are you able to click on it and drag it to your hard drive?

If that works, then you can try to convert it back to an mpeg by using a program called vcdgear. There is an option in the program where you can take it from the .dat on your hard drive to an mpeg. The link is on the left under tools and it has a help section in the app that shows you how to use it.

  6. i am not able to do anything coz no PC cd-rom can recognise the disc. It only works in a VCD or a DVD standalone player...

  7. do you or do you know of someone that has a dvd rom on their computer. It may have something to do with that. Oh! I think thats it. Have you tried to download a software DVD player? That might be it. Give it a try and let us know.

  8. Hey mustafasp,

is there anything like a pale ring on the playing side
of the cd? I'm talking about a near centimeter thick
ring on the silver side near the "hole".
