  1. My computer now captures very well since I implemented Suliks registry fix. He mentioned that the problem was related to ACPI. I'm considering doing a fresh install with no ACPI (I have my current system backed up with Norton Ghost).

    I found this tip:

Fresh Install with no ACPI (updated)

Here is an easier way to do the Fresh Install with no ACPI. When setup is loading, the blue screen will ask if you have any raid devices, and to press F6. When it does that, press and hold F7, & Congratulations! No ACPI will be installed.

    Does that sound right?

I called Compaq and they said XP could not be installed without ACPI ( I don't think the tech I talked to really knew what he was talking about).

I also want to know if I will lose anything by not installing ACPI. My system currently works fine but I have occasional crashes and one program that does not work anymore (probably due to some other change in my system, but that is why I want to do fresh install).

    THanks

  2. Can someone publish the registry fix? Is it for XP? I've had a capture bug that I can't track down to save my life.......

  3. ACPI functionality is mostly related to power management. You might lose some advanced PM features such as hibernate when installing without ACPI.

Switching ACPI on and off requires a full reinstall of Windows XP (or else it won't be able to locate the boot device)

If the registry fix works for you (DriftLimit=1..10), then there is no need to reinstall without ACPI. It's also a good idea to make sure your BIOS is up to date (I'm not sure Compaq offers BIOS upgrades)
