    My goal: Capture SVCD-compatible MPG file directly in ATI's MMC 7.1 and use the Ulead Media Studio Pro 6.0 DVD Plugin to burn the SVCD immediately.

    I followed the directions in this post:
    http://www.vcdhelp.com/phpBB/viewtopic.php?topic=43561&forum=2

    but on my MMC 7.1, my AIW Radeon won't capture to an SVCD compliant file. I'm trying to use Ulead Media Studio Pro DVD Plugin and every attempt to send an mpg file from MMC 7.1 results in the error "not a compliant VCD/SVCD... file".

    Per the instructions in the above post, I've tried demuxing/muxing, cut/joining, and changing the VBV options with TMPGENC 12 to no avail. Since I'm using Win2K, my reg file to tweak the Digital VCR settings so they're supposed to be SVCD compliant was:

    [HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\ATI Technologies\MultiMedia\Features\TV\Video Capture\MPEG\{CB2ADA16-244A-4381-82B1-FD052365A8AD}]
    "Width"=dword:000001e0

    I had to search the registry using REGEDIT for "width" to find it.

    I'm quite satisfied with the quality of the capture directly from ATI's MMC 7.1 and I'd rather not wait 3 hours for a 1/2 hour SVCD MPG to be processed by TMPGENC (though I've never been able to produce a file from TMPGENC that Ulead MSP 6 DVD Plugin likes anyway).

    The Ulead tech support people sent me a new mpeg2.dll file so that I can accept MPG files into their video editor program directly, but it still has to re-encode them - just like TMPGENC - before I can send it to the DVD plugin.

    There is no good answer for this problem in the forums for this problem - that I've found, anyway. Though these are the best VCD/SVCD resource on the whole net, hands down. I've learned more about VCD/SVCD in the last two days of using these forums than in the last two months on the rest of the net. Thanks to everybody for your help!

  2. Is your goal to produce SVCD disks? The reason I ask is that Ulead is not necessary for that. I have no experience with Ulead so I can't be any help with it. I can help if you simply want to burn your MMC 7.1 mpeg2 captures as SVCD disks though.

    The only thing I do differently is that I don't demux and then remux. I just do a cut/join to crop out commercials. This produces a file that works the same as demuxing and remuxing but takes less time.
