Got 'Harry Potter' on VCD, quality is pretty good, apart from the last 15 mins of disk 1 where the picture freezes/breaks up etc.
I've heard about programs like mpgcorrector, but how do I get the VCD back to an mpg ? I've tried virtualdub, but it only picks up the first 60mins of the disk (upto where it freezes) and then stops.
Am I well and truly stuffed or is there an easy way to solve the problem.

take a shot at vcdgear (on the left). there is an option to do .dat===>.mpg
That "should" get the .dat back to an .mpg
another possibility is to copy the .dat file to your hard drive and change the extension to .mpg (the .dat file is a slightly altered .mpg file).
Are you sure that it is the vcd and not the player (heating up or other problems on the cd???) Does it play ok on the computer when you either play it from the cd or from the hard drive as a .dat file? -
It's defo the VCD, plays up on the PC and me standalone player at the same point
I'll try what you've suggested anyway and see how I get on !
