    ok i'm not a total n00b, i understand about regions, and i know i can make my apex 1200 region free. my question is if i do this, and i buy a PAL DVD, will it play fine just like an NTSC or will it be like in black & white or something else funky? I've heard that just because a player is region free doesn't mean it plays the discs as good as ntsc. any help would be appreciated.

    Is your TV compatible with a PAL signal, if not you will get a black and white picture.

    Correct, just because the player is dual standard (PAL and NTSC) does not mean that it will convert NTSC to PAL, nor PAL to NTSC - it will not. It will only allow you to play NTSC disks on an NTSC TV, or PAL disks on a PAL TV (or else you get black and white, as was mentioned earlier).

    It's only the way to learn, I never understand this but I check my tv and I can play NTSC and PAL system.. thanks guys for do so much... Gracias..
