Currently I have an old ATI All in Wonder (the one that was released before ATI All in Wonder 12. It is two years old and can only do AVI and MPEG RAW.

I was thinking of trading it in for an ATI All in Wonder Radien so I can capture direct to MPEG 1 and MPEG 2 and elenate the the transcoding step.

I will be buying the AGP version so I can free up the PCI to put in a NIC 100 Eithernet card.

Is the real time mpeg capture any good?

No, I do not have a firewire card nor do I have $800 for a hardware encoder.

    I have a Pentium II at 350HZ.
    128RAM

And can anyone recomind a cheap but good sound card?

  2. Why don't you try out Creative Labs Videoblaster moviemaker, it offers MPEG1 and MPEG2 Encoding, Its USB and only $199.
For myself, I use WINTV Go - $49, encode In MPEG1 useing the higher MPEG2 settings 2530bps, 29.97 frames using TMPGE, beta B version, much faster than other beta version, its freeware also. I capture in uncompressed AVI, then use TMPGE to encode to MPEG1, looks better than VHS almost as good as SVHS. Been making VCD's for over 2 years now. Anyone I show my VCD product are very surprised at the quality.
When I use Ulead Media Pro 6.0VE to Encode directly to MPEG1 using their MPEG Drivers, using the 2530bps setting it looks as good as VHS Tape, only 35min. per VCD though.
