I recently tried to make a back up of A Beatiful Mind that I had rented. The Disk Wasn't scratched too bad but there was one spot in question. So I tried to rip it my Dvd rom(which is some cheap brand 16x) using Smart ripper it got to 27% and hung up. Then I went to my room
mate' s computer (16x pioneer) same problem a hang up at 27%. So I thought maybe it was some problem with smart ripper so I tried clad dvd. Still the same problem. So when I was about ready to give up I tried my Dvr-104 using clad to rip and it went pefectly no problems. It looks as maybe the Dvr-104 will read damaged disk that other dvd roms will not. The process is slower using the burner. Any thoughts?

i've had this quite a few times in the past with DVD's and CD's, the writer always seems to better at reading svratched discs, i assume the laser must be set up differently or just the fact that it's probably reading slower
