why a lot of hacking and freezing?

Sorry about the newbie question I am going to ask you, but my problem is very frustrating.

I´ve followed the excellent guide on how to convert a divx file into vcd and svcd, but after I´ve burnt it there´s a lot of hacking and freezing.
What do I do wrong?

I´d be very thankful for an answer.
