Which Platform?

Hi,

I am thinking about adding a dvd recording service to my existing pc business. However, I do not want to limit myself to a PC if Apple is more advanced in video capturing and dvd authoring. I thought about using Adobe Premier and if I am going to devote the time to learn Premier, I won't mind adding a Mac OS to the learning curve. I realize that this is a very subjective question, but: which platform, PC or Mac, has the better capturing/authoring capabilities? Most people seem to be black or white on PC/Mac issues, but is there anyone on this forum that has used both for digital video recording? What features do you like on each platform?

I've never done DV capturing on a PC; however, I can tell you about the Mac side of it. Once you hook up your device to the computer you launch iMovie and click one button to import. Once you have your file you can export to quicktime for easy editing. Now for DVD creating you also only use one program for everything. Software that comes with your superdrive will show you exactly how to import your .mov file and burn it to a DVD. All of this takes little time and even less effort.

I thought as much. Even though I have worked on personal computers (hardware and software) starting before IBM's first 'PC', I thought that this may be a time that I remove the blinders. In every documentary about video editing that I have seen done on computers, it has always been a Mac. Before I jump to a Mac though, I wanted to make sure that the PC (win) world hasn't made a leap in progress in this area.

I have mixed feelings about each. The PC is verrrry comfortable to me, but I might need an excuse to broaden my horizons with a Mac.
