I've been joining .avi files in VirtualDub, and then taking the one long file and re-encoding with TMPEGEnc.
Problem: When the output .avi (from VDub) is over 2GB, the audio goes out of synch. When I try to preview the 2+GB file in Windows Media Player, and use the slider, it immediately says "file type not supported, or some such notice)
If I load it up in my ATI MMC File Player, it allows me to use the slider to scan through the file, but the audio is still messed up.
Its not just a playback issue, I burned the MPEG2 file to DVD and the audio really is out of synch.
WTF?
Andy

Before encoding with TMPGE ,extract the audio with Virtualdub and save as a WAV uncompressed (this will be a very large file probably over a gig). Then using the WAV file as the audio source in TMPGE ,encode.
Also, download the lates codecs (perhaps Nimo Codec Pack).
Check options of Win Media Player to see what formats are checked."Today is only yesterdays tomorrow" -

Only good if keyframes are every 10 or so, some have 100 frames !! -
Check out this website, www.Scenalyzer.com. Many people are using it to capture avi video.
This software has a great reputation for recording video with no audio sync problems and no size limit when recording video.
I use to have sync problems, but now I don't. Since I started using Scenalyzer, I haven't had one sync problem.

This means that any non-keyframe that you include will force inclusion of any frames before it, back to and including the previous keyframe.
position slider and to the right of the motion buttons, there is a timestamp counter that shows the current position:
Notice the [K] at the end -- this is the current frame type. K indicates a keyframe; nothing indicates a delta frame; [D] indicates a dropped frame, which is another type of non-keyframe. Basically, all you have to do is ensure that when you delete a segment, you end the delete right before the next keyframe. You can seek between keyframes by holding SHIFT when dragging the nub or clicking on the forward and backward buttons with the yellow key icon.
