  1. Does anyone know of an authoring program that allows 4:3 and 16:9 formats in the same project ?

I have been trying to make an archive copy of Brittany Spears "CrossRoads" DVD which contains both formats.

The movie is 16:9 source (720x480 NO bars), the music videos are 4:3 source (720x480 no bars).

On my 4:3 TV, the Crossroads movie appears nicely with bars top & bottom. When I flag the Music Video's 16:9, they are "streched".

Using DVDiT! PE I have tried re-scaling the 4:3 souce to different sizes with no luck.

Ulead DVD Workshop can do this, but only version 1.2. The demo of 1.0 cannot.

Or, you can trick your authoring program to accept the 16:9 format. Use DVDPatcher to change the AR of the 16:9 clip to 4:3, then author as usual, then create a TITLE SET of your final DVD (don't use the program to burn to DVD-R). Then use IFOEdit to change the AR in the .IFO files and DVDPatcher to change the AR in the .VOBs.

  4. Ulead DVD MovieFactory doesn't seem to support 16:9 at all (except by "squishing" the aspect ratio).

DVDiT! PE excepts both formats, but the project must one or the other format, not both.

  5. DVDMaestro does, and I'm sure Scenarist does as well.
