I have been trying to decode Matrix but unsuccessful. I played it first, then tried smartripper & claddvd. It says it was successful on smartripper but then when it gets half through the 2vob it stops and says it cannot read section retry again. On the beginning of the movie it has pc friendly to install but did not install in fear of not being able to make back-up copies of movies. I am now letting it play for a while hoping to unlock. If there is a scratch on the movie will that keep it from reading properly like there is a code there.
I wanted to say that vcd help is a great site. I learned more here and was very easy to follow the directions.

Try ripping with Smartripper 2.41 in stream mode. Rip only the video and one audio stream, that might help. Matrix is one of the few DVD's with multiple angles and that may be the problem.

Thanks I will try that. But I did play my dvd and the scratch is keeping the movie from playing. So I think that is the problem. I am too late to make my backup copy. Did not realize it was scratched because it played fine last time it was used. When I get a different movie I will try your suggestion if nothing works. Thank you for your response.

Even with a scratch it should still be rippable.
I just backed up a Matrix DVD last weekend. Rip it in DVD Decrypter and make sure you check to REMOVE SEAMLESS BRANCHING under VOB extras. That's the key to the problem.
Then use your IFOEDIT to strip streams and rempeg2 to slender the video down to about 82%, and you're good to fly.-MPB/AZ -
I am not familiar with dvd decryptor. I looked for the remove seamless ripping. Could not find vob extras. I guess on vcdhelp there is directions on how to use it. I appreciate your help and gives hope.

Opps, my fault, I gave you the right instruction for the wrong program.
DVD decrypter will rip the disc in file mode just fine, to your hard disk, using the defaults.
Then under IFOEDIT, load up VOB extras, and strip streams, and on that same config box will be the "Remove seamless branching" that you can check. When you confirm, it will ask you which stream to keep... the default is correct.
Then once stripped, use rempeg to slim it down a bit, remux, and burn to DVDR.-MPB/AZ -
