  2. if you have a vcd movie then it already came off MPEG-1 format most likely
how would converting it to MPEG-2 improve anything??

your final product is only as good as your source

  4. i think you mis-understood me

i was commenting on quality of an MPG1 vs and MPG2

what are you aiming to do?

if you want standard 2 hours of DVD then yes, you would have to reencode them to MPEG-2 and then to VOB files but don't expect any great quality

if you want the most bang for the buck and you have MPEG-1 video, just re-encode the audio and make a VCD on a DVD-R and it will hold over 7 hours of video and play on most DVD players

refer to the DVD RIP help on the side

  8. "Garbage In, Garbage Out".

If your source is a VCD, it doesn't matter what you are encoding it into. It will never look better than the source. Indeed, if you use a loss encoding method like MPEG, you get LOSS of quality with each encoding.

Amazing how quickly we go off on tangents. If you want to make a DVD, your file will have to made into a MPEG-2.

  10. And it is also amazing the number of people on this forum who chastise other people when they have the wrong information.

The DVD standard allows for video to be in MPEG-1 at certain specifications. The video on a VCD definitely fits within this, except that the audio will have to be upsampled to 48 kHz.

If anyone took my last post as a chastisement, I humbly apologize. I am a newbie, and am no position to do such a thing.
